Every man has two countries
I can only really use two words to describe my affinity for France, “Cheese Course.” I have always been a lover of cheese. However, usually this is a cheap or impatient love. Impatient as in: I haven’t eaten all day and I rush home and stuff my face with it because the high fat content satisfies my hunger. Cheap as in: I’m cooking dinner and instead of using a delicate spice blend or looking up a new recipe I just slather my creation with not-necessarily-the-right-type of cheese to hide the blandness of my creation.
The third part of our trip was spent visiting towns along the Saône river in the Burgandy region in France via riverboat. Often dinner would include the cheese course. Far from being cheap or impatient, this is a course served after your entrée and plat principal. You are not cutting your selections from the cheese plate presented to you because you need the calories. You are taking time to finish your conversation and your bottle of wine. You are taking time to appreciate artists whose work is a bacterial process. You have a slight awareness of the delights of dessert that may follow but you are in no rush to leave the moment. Yes, France you have helped me realize a love that is patient, mature, and content.
Beth and I were in Europe for almost three weeks which is probably the longest trip I have taken out of the country. Paris was beautiful and vibrant and we were lucky to be able to visit with Carl and his friends. We rented an apartment from very friendly woman, Issabel. She was nice enough to join us for dinner on our way back through Paris at the end of our trip.
We visited and stayed with Dylan in Munich. While busy working he was able to take some time off to do a day trip with us to Tegernsee south of Munich. Tegernsee was easily one of the most scenic places I have ever been.
